Sports Update: December 21st, 2017

College Men's Basketball
Division 1 action yesterday- Cornell defeated Lafayette 80-71 at home (Cornell's second straight win).
Cornell will be back in action Saturday (Dec. 23rd) with a home contest against Niagara.

Army will have their next contest Friday, December 29th at home against Boston University.


College Men's Volleyball
Division III- New York will open their season Friday, January 19th against Benedictine University.


College Men's Wrestling
Division III- New York defeated the United States Merchant Marine Academy 32-16 on Friday, December 15th to improve to 5-3. They will return to action Friday, December 29th and Saturday, December 30th at the Citrus Invitational.


College Men's Lacrosse
Division I- Army will open their season on Saturday, February 10th at home against Massachusetts, and will have their contest against Navy on Saturday, April 14th.

Division II- Young Harris will open their season on Saturday, February 3rd on the road at Lenoir-Rhyne.


College Men's Golf
Division II- Young Harris will open their spring schedule Monday, February 12th and Tuesday, February 13th at the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate. The tournament will be held at the Fleming Island Golf Club in Orange Park, Florida.

Division III- New York will open their spring schedule Monday, March 12th and Tuesday, March 13th at the UAA Championships. The tournament will be held at the Hammock Beach Golf Club in Palm Coast, Florida.


College Division III Men's Golf- Liberty League Championships
After the first two rounds, the top four is as follows:
1st Place- Rochester (595)
2nd Place- Renesselaer Polytechnic (609)
3rd Place- New York (630)
4th Place- Skidmore College (638)

The final two rounds will be held Saturday, April 28th and Sunday, April 29th at the Timber Banks Country Club in Baldwinsville, New York.

Discussion- I noticed on ESPN.com that LaVar Ball is looking to start a basketball league for high school grads that don't want to play in college. Do you think that this is a good idea, or should HS grads keep college as an option even if basketball doesn't work?

Sports Update: December 19th, 2017

College Ski/Snowboard
Liberty University will have two events during the month of January- Sunday, January 21st at Beech Mountain (North Carolina) and Saturday, January 27th at Massanutten (Virginia).


College Disc Golf
The Liberty University men's team qualified for the National Collegiate Disc Golf National Championships, which will be held Wednesday, April 11th thru Saturday, April 14th at North Augusta, South Carolina, by winning their home ten-team Flamethrower Invitational (held Saturday, November 4th and Sunday, November 5th). Virginia Tech and East Carolina earned the other two tournament bids to nationals as they finished second and third. 


College Paintball
At the first Mid-South Collegiate Conference Class A event of the year on Sunday, October 29th, the Liberty University men's paintball team defeated East Carolina 6-5, Kennesaw State 8-4, and Clemson 10-4 to start the season atop the conference standings at 3-0. N.C. State also competed in the tournament and finished 1-1. Liberty-U will next be in action Saturday, April 7th and Sunday, April 8th when they will host the second and third MSCC Class A events at the Liberty University Paintball Fields.


College Equestrian
Women's Hunt Seat- Region 4 Standings (after conclusion of fall competition)
*Randolph-Macon: 167 points
Liberty University: 166 points
Sweet Briar: 162 points
Mary Washington: 154 points
Christopher Newport: 126 points

Liberty-U currently has five individual region qualifiers

Western Equestrian- Liberty University will travel to Martin Community College Saturday, January 27th and Sunday, January 28th.
Hunt Seat Equestrian- Liberty-U will host a region show Saturday, February 10th at the Liberty Equestrian Center (remember- five points separate the top three teams in the region standings).
