Outside of MMA, what will happen next month?
Women's Water Polo: The world qualifier tournament from the 17th through the 24th will determine the final two spots for the Tokyo field
Taekwondo: The Europe qualifiers will run on the 30th and 31st

What will happen with the UFC lightweight division?
We know that Tony Ferguson will face Charles Oliveira next weekend
We know that Conor McGregor will rematch Dustin Poirier next month
But... not much after that

Is the UFC being run on a YouTube model?
Picture these moves:
1. Cody Garbrandt (name recognition) originally getting the flyweight title shot over Alex Perez and Brandon Moreno (deserving contenders)
2. Israel Adesanya (name recognition) being considered for the light heavyweight title shot over the Santos-Teixeira winner (deserving contender). The UFC also had an end goal in mind here- an Adesanya-Jones superfight.
Both of these instances prioritized potential pay-per-views being sold rather than having the champions defending the belts against actual contenders

If Figueiredo is defending his belt next weekend, why is the ostensible #1 contender bout between Benavidez and Askarov scheduled for March?
Sigh. They're probably going to give Cody Garbrandt his "name recognition and nothing else" title shot, is what that means. It's ridiculous. Say what you will about Jose Aldo getting a bantamweight title shot- at least he had a fight under his belt at 135 before that

If Francis Ngannou is the UFC top contender at heavyweight, who's the second in line?
Lewis-Blaydes winner (reschedule it)
Overeem-Volkov winner should be the third in line

My Ideal UFC 259 (March PPV) Main Card
Main Event: Stipe Miocic v. Francis Ngannou 2 for the heavyweight title
Co-Main: Light Heavyweight OR Middleweight title fight
Valentina Shevchenko v. Jessica Andrade for the women's flyweight title
Men's Flyweight: Joseph Benavidez v. Askar Askarov
Men's Featherweight: Arnold Allen v. Edson Barboza

Is the Hermansson-Vettori winner next in line for Israel Adesanya?
On the surface, I'd say yes.
However, let's look deeper.
Robert Whittaker is the ostensible next challenge after fending off Darren Till in July and Jared Cannonier in September, but Adesanya is more interested in the light heavyweight title currently held by Jan Blachowicz.
I'd say that it would lean more towards Vettori if he wins, since he'd then have a four-fight win streak including the fourth on seven day's notice, but I think a very impressive finish from either one should be enough

What's next for the UFC rankings?
A recent transparency article (from either Bloody Elbow or MMA Mania) revealed that half of the media sources that help rank fighters don't closely follow the UFC. No word yet on where the promotion goes from here, although my idea would be for more transparency by the UFC regarding voting media when it comes to the UFC rankings

What would I do if I was the UFC president?
1. Rubber-stamp Moreno v. Royval this weekend as a #1 contender bout for the men's flyweight strap
2. Put together a lightweight grand prix for the 155 belt: Conor McGregor v. Dustin Poirier 2, Tony Ferguson v. Michael Chandler, Justin Gaethje v. Rafael dos Anjos and Dan Hooker v. Charles Oliveira
3. Give Khabib a chance to go 30-0 if he chooses- a non-title bout opposite Georges St. Pierre
4. Set up the March PPV card (UFC 259) to be headlined by three title fights: Miocic-Ngannou 2 for the heavyweight title, Blachowicz-Teixeira for the light heavyweight title and Adesanya-Whittaker 2 for the middleweight title
5. Set Ferguson-Chandler as the co-main to McGregor-Poirier 2 for UFC 257 in January
6. For UFC 258 in February, have Gaethje-dos Anjos and Hooker-Oliveira as the main and co-main and have Weidman-Hall also on the main card
7. Have Lewis-Blaydes next weekend rubber-stamped as- if not the #1 contender bout- then at least as a title eliminator. I'd set the Overeem-Volkov winner as the #2 contender
8. Match Donald Cerrone opposite Clay Guida at lightweight
