NFL Preseason Optimism Grades
*And remember these are just my opinions
Bears- As a fan, I want to say A, but...
With all due respect to QB Justin Fields, everyone thought QB Mitchell Trubisky would be the answer to Chicago's QB problems when he arrived. Fields is a good start, but the Bears also need offensive line help and some more weapons on offense.
Bengals- Cautiously A- WR Ja'marr Chase is reunited with QB Joe Burrow- but will Burrow remain uninjured this season?
49ers: A B right now- Was FCS and didn't-play-in-2020 Trey Lance a better choice than national-championship-experience-in-2020 Justin Fields at the keystone position for the offense?
Jets: Close to an A: This boils down to one question. Will Zach Wilson work out better long-term than Justin Fields under center?
Jaguars: A at the moment- they have a new QB with national-championship experience in Trevor Lawrence and a new addition to the backfield in RB Travis Etienne, who will be reunited with Lawrence to continue a connection that gave Etienne the ACC's all-time rushing yards record. But how will their offensive line work in 2021 and beyond?
Falcons: About a 90- They got TE Kyle Pitts to have a three-headed weapon along with Jones and Ridley; The shored up their offensive line; And they got safety help to replace Allen and Neal. However, they still don't have a viable backup for Matt Ryan at QB, who's been playing well but will be 37 when the season rolls around.
