Sports Update: February 5th, 2018

NCAA Division I Baseball

Army-West Point will open their season with a three-game set Friday, February 16th through Sunday, February 18th against Michigan.


NCAA Division I Lacrosse

The Army-West Point women will open their season on Saturday (February 10th) at Monmouth.
The Army-West Point men will open their season on Saturday (February 10th) with a home match against Massachusetts.


NCAA Division I Rifle

Army-West Point will host their NCAA Qualification Match on Saturday (February 10th).


NCAA Division II Men's Lacrosse

Lenoir-Rhyne defeated Young Harris 18-7 on Saturday (February 3rd).
Young Harris will be back in action Saturday (February 10th) with a 1 pm home contest against Lindenwood. Lenoir-Rhyne will also be in action on Saturday (February 10th), but they will travel to Limestone.

Upcoming

The 2018 South Atlantic Conference Tournament semifinals and final will be held on Friday, April 27th and Sunday, April 29th at Wingate.


NCAA Division II Baseball

Young Harris lost the first three games of their season against Rollins Friday (4-5), Saturday (0-6), and Sunday (4-16) on the road. They will be in action on Wednesday (February 7th) at Anderson University in South Carolina before their home-opening series Friday (February 9th) through Sunday (February 11th) against Shorter University.

North Georgia rebounded from a 7-4 loss to Florida Tech at home Friday (February 2nd) by sweeping a home doubleheader on Saturday (February 3rd) (also against Florida Tech), 11-10 and 6-5.
North Georgia will take a two-game winning streak into a three-game home series Friday (February 9th) through Sunday (February 11th) against Florida Southern.


NCAA Division II Softball

The Young Harris softball team opened their season by winning 3-of-4 games this previous Saturday and Sunday at the Gulf Coast Invitational. They split their two games Saturday (February 3rd), falling 4-3 to Delta State in eight innings before defeating West Georgia 2-0. They swept their competition on Sunday (February 4th) with two shutouts- giving them three shutouts and wins in a row- 6-0 against Delta State and 8-0 over West Alabama.
Young Harris will have a three-game set at 23rd-ranked Saint Leo Friday (February 9th) and Saturday (February 10th)- with a solo game on Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday, before a doubleheader on the road Sunday (February 11th) at Tampa.

Upcoming
The Young Harris softball team will host the YHC Tournament Saturday, March 3rd and Sunday, March 4th. In addition to Young Harris, King University, Wingate, and fellow Peach Belt school Georgia College will also be in the field.


NCAA Division II Men's Tennis

North Georgia won two matches on Saturday (February 3rd): 5-4 over Belmont Abbey and 9-0 over Johnson C. Smith (North Georgia has now won three straight dating back to October).
North Georgia will be back in action on Sunday (February 11th) with a home contest against Lenoir-Rhyne.


NCAA Division II Women's Track & Field

North Georgia will open their season on Sunday, February 25th at the Adonica Ferguson Relays hosted by Columbus State.


Auto Racing

Qualifying for the Daytona 500 will take place on Sunday (February 11th)


Georgia High School High-Q

Wesleyan defeated Saint Pius X 570-350 on Saturday (February 3rd) to advance to the next round.


High School Varsity Girls Basketball

The Cottage School defeated Mill Springs on the road on Friday (February 2nd) and will take the second-seed into the Atlanta Athletic Conference semifinals, which will take place Monday (February 12th) at the Cougar Center.


High School Varsity Boys Basketball

The Cottage School defeated Mill Springs on the road Friday (February 2nd). With a 6-2 record in Atlanta Athletic Conference play, they will take the second-seed into the AAC semifinals Monday (February 12th) at the Cougar Center against three-seed Atlanta Area.


High School Golf
The Cottage School's first match is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, February 28th against Mill Springs Academy.


NCAA Division I Men's Rugby

Army-West Point will host Dartmouth on Saturday, March 3rd to open their spring schedule.

Upcoming
The semifinals of the USA Rugby Collegiate National Championships will be Saturday, May 5th on CBS.


Olympics
The 2018 Winter Olympics will open on Thursday (February 8th)  before the opening ceremony on Friday (February 9th).
